“Manual Indicators” vs. “Calculated Indicators”
Mainlevel CONNECT differentiates between two types of indicators:
Manual Indicators: The values and are entered by you, manually. Generally these are used for binary responses where something exists or does not exist like regulated framework or a plan, for example.
Calculated Indicators: A calculated indicator is a measure or metric that is automatically derived from other data points or variables given in a data collection in the system through the use of a user defined formula or calculation. For example, the average salary or the number of students and participants or the gender parity within an institution.
Please note, however, for both indicator types, it is essential for the user to manually trigger a “status update” in order for the system to reflect the latest values of an indicator. This status update may be thought of as a snapshot of the progress of an indicator at a particular point in time. The process for updating both indicator types is described below.
Updating a “Manual Indicator”
Step 1. Open the “Indicator Dashboard” of your “Results & Indicator” section in the navigation.
Step 2. Click on the “Status Update” button. A pop-up window will open.
Step 3. In the pop-up window fill out all the provided fields as they are mandatory. So,
a) Assign a status to the indicator that is most fitting.
b) Enter the relevant values for all target fields.
c) Add a comment for the status update.
Step 4. Click save to finish the status update for the indicator.
Updating a “Calculated Indicator”
Open the indicator dashboard as in the image below and click on the “Status Update” button on the right. A pop-up window will open.
2. In the pop-up window all the calculated target fields will already be filled out by the system for you. You can not make changes to these values as they are calculated and the values are derived from the relevant data collections on which the calculations are based.
3. Assign a status to the indicator that is most fitting.
4. Add a comment for the status update.
5. Click save to finish the update.
